The tournament joins the US and Aussie Opens in employing video review technology.
Replay systems will be launched at The Championships this year.
Athletes are granted the right to question certain rulings from the chair umpire, echoing the protocol currently in operation at both the US Open and the Australian Open.
This innovation will be operational on the main stadium and Court One throughout the Championships and on the other four show courts when they are staging singles contests.
This move follows just a season following the AELTC implemented electronic line calling, which terminated the centuries-old role of line officials.
Scope of Challenges
Players will not be permitted to challenge the call of the electronic line calling, but they can ask for the umpire to review specific decisions, including:
- If a tennis ball has double-bounced.
- If a shot touched an rival's racket or body during play.
- Potential hindrance end of a rally.
Notably, there is no cap on the amount of reviews a player can ask for.
A Recent Example
An illustrative example occurred in a recent tournament recently, where a top player used the review system against Jack Draper.
The British player conceded it was a tough call for the umpire, but believed his opponent had "used the regulations quite well."
The umpire watched a video and determined Draper was guilty of hindrance, granting the point to his opponent.
Wider Implementation
Video reviews are not new for major tournaments. It has been in use at the American major for two years and the Australian Open since 2025.
Additionally, it is increasingly prevalent on the women’s WTA Tour, and by the coming year the men's ATP Tour plans to have the system in place at all of its tournaments.
Further Updates
A further change at Wimbledon 2025 involves the addition of visual indicators on scoreboards to support the audio calls from the ELC system.
This addresses instances where spectators have occasionally been unsure if a shot was in or out.
In other news, with exactly 100 days remaining until the start of the tournament, organizers have further revealed an expansion in daily attendance at the qualifiers in the qualifying venue.
